U.S.–Canada Transportation

Cross-border freight, planned with the border paperwork in mind.

Request a Quote

Freight moving between the United States and Canada needs the usual shipment details plus customs information. Share where the freight is going and who is clearing it, and we will review the options with carrier partners.

Customs requirements vary by commodity and direction. This page is general information, not customs advice.

How we help

  1. Review the shipment

We go through commodity, weight, dimensions and the lane, in either direction.

  2. Match the service

We look at flatbed, dry van, refrigerated or LTL options for the freight.

  3. Confirm the customs contact

We ask who your customs broker or importer of record is, so the carrier can coordinate.

  4. Plan the timing

We work with the carrier partner on pickup, border crossing and delivery.

How border paperwork works

Carrier manifest

The carrier sends shipment information electronically to customs before reaching the border.

Customs release

The importer or customs broker files for release of the goods. It is a separate step from the carrier’s manifest.

Matching references

The shipment reference on the carrier’s manifest must match the customs filing, or the truck can be held at the border.

Documents

Commercial invoices and accurate descriptions, values and weights help avoid delays.
